open grasslands, ranches, some residential areas and St. Onge north of Spearfish (with Jocelyn Baker)(37)
January 2 - I helped with the Canyon Lake survey (Rapid City) and then birded west of
there (Sturgis, Bear Butte areas)(20)
January 3 - I headed east
to the Pierre area for gulls, Snowy Owls, but before I got to look for gulls, I learned from Ricky Davis that Hiddenwood SP
near Selby had good birds, so I headed there; overnight in Selby (9)

4 - back to Hiddenwood, then to Pierre and home (no gulls found in Pierre)(3)
January 5 - I looked for Pinyon Jays and Evening Grosbeaks west of Rapid City (no luck on either), and then bird
